Turbo SRT8 Jeep vs Nitrous Fed Hellcat Chalenger – 1/4 mile Drag Race!

Dodge’s Hellcat Challenger has become one of the hottest sports cars in the world. With 707 horsepower on tap from the factory and plenty of potential inside the supercharged HEMI powerplant with aftermarket modifications, these cars are throwing down some stellar times in the quarter mile.

Within the same family, the Hellcat has a cousin that has some equally solid potential under the hood, although the SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee is far less common to find in a modified state. However, at this particular event, there just happened to be one that’s not only modified, it’s been boosted with a turbocharger that goes a long way to level the playing field with the Challenger in the other lane, despite the fact that the lime green Hellcat has some pretty significant modifications.

The Challenger is sporting upper and lower pulleys to bump the boost, a full exhaust including long tube headers, an upgraded fuel system pumping the engine full of E85, and a nitrous kit to help get things moving. We don’t know much about the setup on the SRT8 other than it’s a 405 CID stroker with boost and nitrous but with drag radials on all four corners, it had the undeniable benefit of all wheel drive when it comes time to drop the hammer.

As you can see on the track, that’s enough to make the difference. The Jeep storms out of the hole with a solid reaction time while the Challenger is visibly late leaving the line. Despite running a tenth slower through the quarter mile – at a still very respectable 9.60 elapsed time – the Jeep gets the win light thanks to the holeshot.

The challenger lays down a killer 9.50 ET, putting it among the quickest Hellcats we’ve seen, and if you listen closely, the announcer says that’s good for the #1 qualifying position.
