Underwater welding is not for the weak hearted

Welding is an art form practiced by many within the car culture. It is one of those skills that takes a short time to learn, but a lifetime to master, and the results can be anywhere from hideous globs of bulbous metal to a beautiful row of identical, perfectly spaced welds, depending on how far one is in said lifetime of mastery.

A select group of particularly ballsy welders take their skills below the surface and actually weld underwater. If you have any welding experience, or even know how welding works in general, your immediate reaction is spot-on: mixing electricity and water seems dangerous! And it is, which is why there are relatively few trained underwater welders. The tasks these submerged slag slingers perform are otherwise impossible, or incredibly inconvenient and expensive, for a regular welder to tackle, such as preparing damaged ship hulls and underwater oil rig sections. This video gives you quick glimpse inside the process, as you can see how intense a few moments of underwater welding can be.

Welding itself is intimidating enough, taking it underwater seems borderline crazy, which is why the job generally pays pretty well!
