United States Military Just Achieved Their First Air to Air “Kill” in Almost 20 Years!
While the Hollywood depiction of aerial warfare might paint a more violent picture, it isn’t too often that the United States gets a “kill” in the air on an enemy aircraft. In fact, it hasn’t been since 1999 that we have seen another aircraft shot down in a Dogfight scenario.
However, as predicted by people of the time, the present day consists of more unmanned aircraft that may be faced with the reality of being shot down thanks to the people behind them having the opportunity of pushing it further without the risk of losing life on their end.
Just recently, a US aircraft recorded another kill on a Syrian aircraft but it probably isn’t what you’re thinking. Instead of shooting down another pilot behind the controls of a fighter jet, this one’s just so happened to be unmanned. However, although unmanned, it was said that the aircraft in question was armed and ready to shoot.
The official statement goes something like this:
“A U.S. aircraft shot down an armed pro-Syria regime Unmanned Aerial Vehicle after it fired on Coalition forces in Southern Syria, June 8.
The pro-regime UAV, similar in size to a U.S. MQ-1 Predator, was shot down by a U.S. aircraft after it dropped one of several weapons it was carrying near a position occupied by Coalition personnel who are training and advising partner ground forces in the fight against ISIS.”
While it wasn’t a fighter jet on the receiving end of this blow, but rather a drone, that marks the first aircraft “kill” in nearly two decades, I think that it’s safe to say that getting these weapons of ill intent out of the sky is a definite move in the right direction. The video below will outline what things were like the last time that something like this happened way back in 1999.
