What Happens if You Push The Engine Stop Button While Driving?
Today, more so than a couple of years ago, there are a good deal of cars that are fitted with push start technology right out of the factory. This is a shiny and exciting new feature, but for those who have never had it before and even some who have, there are questions that need to be answered.
This time, the AutoVlog YouTube channel takes us on a ride in their late model Ford to see what should happen if you’re driving along and happen to bump into the button. Nobody wants to lose power to their car while they’re making their way down the freeway in rush hour traffic.
While turning a key requires more of a physical motion, bumping a start/stop button could easily happen if you’re moving around the cabin. Will this slight bump shut off the car? If it won’t, how will you be able to shut down the car should an emergency happen while you’re rolling. What if your throttle gets stuck and you need to kill the power?
Check out the video below that will take you through a demonstration that should answer all of these questions and more about a push to start – at least in a Ford. With safety standards in place, I would be inclined to think that push start systems across other manufacturers would be somewhat similar. If you’re concerned about your specific application, we’d recommend breaking out that handy dandy user’s manual.
