What Is Two Step? Rev Limiters Explained
Jason from Engineering Explained is basically the Bill Nye of the automotive world. This brilliant young engineer breaks down many of the most complicated systems and processes on today’s modern car and explains it in a way that most anybody can grasp.
Today, we have some excellent information on two-step rev limiters, including what they’re used for and the options for accomplishing what they are intended to do. Jason breaks down the purpose of a two-step first, explaining that it’s simply two different rev limiters, one for launch control and one for a damage-prevention measure to limit the maximum RPM the engine will turn. He then dives into the “how”, discussion the different methods that can be used to hold the engine at a certain speed, either by altering the timing, spark or fuel delivery. Each method has it’s advantages and more suitable application, so watch and learn which method best suits your needs if you’re buying an aftermarket two-step.
