Whats Inside an Engine?

The What’s Inside YouTube channel has become one of our favorites, and it’s because they’ re not afraid to do stuff like this!

The father-son duo that run the channel take objects and… open them. Only instead of using the traditional methods most of us think of when we think “opening” up an engine or a television, they think of wrenches and screwdrivers as the tools most of us would grab to open either of those. Instead, the guys load up the engine and take it to a shop that features a couple of massive saws and anything else needed to literally slice the engine into separate halves, at least in theory.

What they find is exactly what most of us already know: There’s a cam, crankshaft, pistons, bearings and a host of other components that make up the engine itself. Some As you would expect, a split engine is actually really cool to see, looking very much like the cutaway images found in, for example, Chevrolet’s press releases.
