What’s the 702HP Ram TRX ACTUALLY Like? Check Out the First Real Test

Love them or hate them, it’s hard to deny that FCA is making an impact on the world of performance. In an economy where people seem to be looking more toward fuel efficiency, Ram is going in the opposite direction. The automaker has taken it upon themselves to really step up their performance game and put the rest of the industry on notice. This falls right in line with their sister brand, Dodge, who has also emphasized performance with a slew of different high horsepower offerings.

With the introduction of the ram 1500 TRX, we find a new performance super truck, unlike anything that the market has seen before. Sure, we’ve seen the likes of trucks like the Ford Raptor. However, it seems like the team behind the Raptor has been a little bit conservative as the V8 option was thrown out in favor of a twin-turbocharged V6. This application wasn’t necessarily bad. However, having a competitor cranking out over 700 hp while you’re nowhere near that mark certainly lit a fire under Ford to do better. In other words, because of the TRX, everybody will be stepping their game up. Shortly after the unveiling of the TRX, a leak would imply that we will see a GT500-powered Raptor as well, belting out over 700 hp.

On paper, this all sounds great. However, putting 700 hp down with a truck is a lot easier said than done. Sure, Dodge has definitely shown us that they can make substantial power. However, being able to hold it all together in a heavyweight truck that’s going to be slung around off-road is certainly a new challenge. Even if the architecture had been borrowed from the likes of the Hellcat, keeping everything from breaking while being abused off of the beaten path is a tall task for anyone.

By following along with the savagegeese video below, we get to ride along with a little bit of a real-world test that shows us how the 2021 Ram TRX is going to perform when it’s put into the real world. When push finally came to shove, it looks like the super truck has what it takes to really show off some muscle.
