Where Is Derek From Street Outlaws Now?
For the first several seasons of Discovery Channel’s hit street racing show Street Outlaws, Derek Travis was a constant presence on the 405’s Top 10 list. Derek and his Silver Unit third gen Camaro bounced up and down the list, usually hovering around the middle three spots. Eventually, however, Derek would take the car off the list and, at least for the past few seasons, hasn’t made an attempt to return.
So what has he been doing during his absence? Racing, of course. Travis and the Silver Unit have been traveling all over, showing up at events all over the midwest and southeast to either compete or make exhibition passes for the fans on hand. The car still looks pretty similar to what we saw on the show, wearing a coat of silver paint and relying on nitrous injection for extra power from his Winger Race Engines powerplant. Big tires out back help keep the car hooked up and toting the front wheels alongside fellow 405 runner Monza and his 2nd gen Sinister Split Bumper Camaro, among others.
Only time will tell if Derek gets the car back up and running to a level he feels is competitive to compete against the Top 10 list, but even if he doesn’t, he can still hit the tracks all across the country and put on a show for the fans. That’s been an option for several of the racers who have been on the show in the early seasons and of course, the guys who are still on the Top 10 hit the road and go from track to track, sometimes hitting as many as three in a single weekend to meet as many fans and lay down as many passes as they can while the show is not filming.
