Why Does This YouTuber Hate Nitrous So Much?
Nitrous oxide is one of the most popular of the three power adder types, offering a great bump in horsepower without requiring modifications to the engine and without spending the huge chunk of money it costs to supercharge or turbocharge your engine. Nitrous kits can be as cheap as a couple hundred dollars, though you’ll want to add on a few things to have a truly useful system, a couple of which will be mentioned in this video.
And before we dive too far into this, we want to make sure you guys know that we know this guy is sort of semi-serious. The things he points out are certainly inconveniences and drawbacks of nitrous, but for many, it’s the power adder of choice because the pros far outweigh the cons, and this guy is no different. If you’re considering a nitrous kit for your car, especially one that’s a daily driver that you take to the track occasionally, there are some things in this video that may help you make you decision to pull the trigger or to look elsewhere for a source of higher horsepower.
The main thing all of these cons point to is inconvenience, such as having to get out of the car to open the valve on the bottle if you unexpectedly decide you need a little nitrous in your life. There’s also checking the bottle pressure, which is determined by the temperature of the bottle itself and the amount of nitrous remaining inside. You can buy remote bottle valves and bottle heaters to combat these issues, but they add to the cost of the system and run the risk of failing and leaving you high and dry with a closed, cold bottle.
The other real major issue is the bottle running out. It’s pretty easy to get a little too happy with the arming switch and spend a little too much time with the system activated, leaving you with an empty bottle that is becoming harder and hard to refill thanks to a nationwide shortage of nitrous.
All in all, though, nitrous is a great option for those looking to add a nice kick of horsepower without a lot of work or expense.
