Time Lapse Shows World’s Largest 3D Printed Boat Being Made

The technology that we have access to these days is downright insane. It wasn’t all that long ago that boats were being made exclusively out of wood. These days, though, we see a whole bunch of new means implemented to get to that end product. As the boat has evolved, the materials used to bring it together have also gotten better. Along with this, the means of production have improved as well.

Something to keep an eye on that has really been coming along recently is the technology of 3D printing. Essentially, the technology takes a medium and is able to print just about anything that the user has a file for. This means that everything from small plastic components all the way to entire cars have been printed using this tech. It’s not perfect, yet. However, we see some exciting steps are being taken toward a 3D printed world. We’re sure that just like anything else, this technology will get better and more affordable as it ages.

This time, we check in with quite a feat of 3D printing engineering. With the world’s largest 3D printer, the University of Maine was able to carry out something incredible. Equipped with a plan, they would get down to business, essentially synthesizing something from nothing.

By following along with the video below, we get to see some of the steps that were taken in bringing a boat to life. When all is said and done, we even get to see it floating in a pool with passengers on board. We have to admit that if we saw this thing floating in a Marina, we don’t think that we would give it a second glance. That really says something about how far 3D printing has come. Will there ever be a day where everything that we see is a result of 3D printing?
