2016 Ford Mustang GT350 Spotted Testing

Ford Mustang GT500 is spied doing some track testing and we must say it looks good.  It takes the turns like a true champion.

There’s no official word on the name: GT500, GT350, SVO, Mach 1 and SVT Cobra have been in speculation, though chatter we’ve heard seem to suggest a Shelby GT350 badged Mustang will be the first SVT variant out of the gate. We can tell that the new whatever its name is will have a central hood vent similar to the GT500.

Ford GT350

This car is outfitted with the most revealing camouflage of any prototype we’ve seen thus far from the SVT division of Ford.  The confusion of this with the base model 5.0  is easily cleared up by its beefy wheels and tires, enormous cross-drilled brake rotors and quad exhaust outlets. The front track also appears to have been widened compared to the standard model, and adds menacing-looking front fascia as part of this package, as well.

We don’t know for sure what engine will be dropped into the GT350, but a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V8 appears to be the talk around the rumor mills. This engine would have a slightly larger displacement than the stock unit, and SVT is known to be working on a flat-plane crankshaft for the “Voodoo” engine. The lower rotating mass with such a set up should allow this V-8 to rev past 8000 rpm and deliver about 550 horsepower. We expect this engine to be mounted exclusively to a manual transmission and send its power through a limited-slip differential.  Although such a power plant likely wouldn’t be able to match the 662 horsepower provided by the current Shelby GT500’s supercharged 5.8-liter V8, a significant weight reduction should ensure the GT350 is no slouch in the performance department.

Now to see what people are saying…
