2021 Tahoe Gets a New Look, Long Awaited Diesel Option

It seems as if there isn’t too much that’s guaranteed in the automotive landscape from year-to-year. However, one thing seems to hold true. If any given brand on the market doesn’t adapt, they will probably end up being impacted pretty heavily.
These days, the power source under the hood of vehicles keeps on evolving. We aren’t necessarily to the point where we see everything with electric power just yet. However, even cornerstones of the automotive community that are decades-old like the Chevrolet Suburban are seeing first-time developments.
This year, we see some familiar displacement figures under the hood of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. Each will come standard with a 5.3L V8 producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft. From there, we see an optional 6.2L V8 that claims 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. The 6.2 will come standard in the High Country trim level.
However, what really stood out is the third option that’s now available in General Motors SUVs. With the 2021 release, the vehicles will boast a diesel engine option. It’s not necessarily what gearheads have been hoping for. The big and beefy Duramax won’t be shared with GM’s HD trucks. Instead, though, we will find a 3L inline diesel engine that produces 277 hp and 460 lb-ft. It will be available in every model that isn’t labeled “z71.”
All variations will come with a 10-speed transmission.
From there, we see the models get a complete facelift as well. In addition, Chevrolet makes its way to the modern era with a standard 10-inch display up front. Another detail that caught our eye was that the trucks will be available with an independent rear suspension, air suspension, and magnetic ride control. Lastly, they’re getting bigger as well. The videos here do a good job of showing just how much more space will be available in the SUVs.
