Dodge Unveils NEW Widebody Hellcat!
If you’re hoping to get your hands on a Dodge Demon, the numbers are not in your favor. Even if you have the $90,000 it takes to buy one and even if you got to the dealership and ordered on of the 3,300 limited edition drag-tuned factory hotrods, you still are not guaranteed one come delivery time. However, if fortune doesn’t favor you in the Demon lottery, there will be a next-best option that’s only a small step down from the quickest production car to ever roll out of Detroit.
Today, Dodge revealed the 2018 Challenger Hellcat Widebody, a mix of the best parts of the previous Hellcat melded with the body of the Demon. The Widebody Hellcat doesn’t get the Demon’s model-specific hood, but it will be fitted with the Demon’s bulging fender flares, which rumors say will be home to wider tires, giving the Hellcat some much needed grip. The Widebody model will also get a custom set of split-spoke wheels and the Demon’s subtle, but aggressive, front splitter which will help keep the front end planted at speeds. If rumors hold true, expect 305-wide tires on all four corners that will allow the portly Hellcat to hold nearly a full G of lateral grip, a good bit more sideways grip than the standard Hellcat available now. There are no rumored horsepower increases, but with over 700 ponies available, there’s hardly a shortage of power from the supercharged Hemi.
The Widebody Hellcat will be available to order in July and should arrive on dealership showrooms a few short months later, so if you missed the change to get on the “Hopefuls” list for Demons, which many eager buyers certainly did, then this will be as close as you will come until the likely few that were bought to sell hit eBay and the like.
