Car Dealer: Flood Water Washed Away My Retirement
With all of the flooding that’s gone on recently due to the 1-2 punch of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, we’ve seen plenty of other videos and stories of devastating floods pop up from years past as victims look to relate to other effected by flood waters. Finding common ground and seeing how others have managed to deal with having their lives turned upside down by one of the deadliest of all natural disasters.
In the small town of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, a massive storm system dumped days of rain in the area back in 2015 and this local news broadcast used the plight of one small local business to help tell the tale of the impact the floods had on the town. David Kelso, owner of David’s Used Cars, was directly in the path of the water from a broken dam a half mile away, which sent a wall of water rushing toward the car lot. The cars, which David estimated to be worth at least $200,000 or so, were swept so far away from where they had been parked that some of them still hadn’t been found when the news crews arrived. David and some of his friends worked to begin the process of wrangling up the mess as flood waters resided, but a disheartened Kelso faced the fact that his retirement plan had basically taken a swim when the floodwaters rushed in.
Unfortunately, with no insurance to cover the damage and little more than scrap left of the car lot, David will basically have to start from scratch and try his best to rebuild his inventory and get back on his feet. After watching his dreams wash away, we can’t imagine how David felt, but hopefully with the help of his friends he was able to get things sorted out and back to business.
