American Chopper Makes Its Returns to Discovery Channel!
With six years having passed since the last new episode aired, Discovery Channel’s long running series American Chopper has quietly returned to the network that originally brought us a look behind the curtain at Orange County Choppers. New York-based OCC, owned by Paul Teutul Sr, was tasked with building some of the most insane custom chopper builds we’ve ever seen, with the cameras following the builds along with the often-contentious relationship between Teutul Sr and his son, Paul Jr. American Chopper was one of the networks most popular show and was one of the first to really feature the work/family dynamic.
The show’s original run ended following an intense fight between Paul Sr. and Jr that proved to leave and irreparable rift between father and son. The Teutul’s have bounced in and out of the news during the show’s hiatus, occasionally teasing a return to television, and finally last night the show itself returned to the airwaves with a great new episode, appropriately titled Welcome Back.
While father and son continue to operate their shops separately, there’s some foreshadowing that takes place in the episode after Paul Jr is given the opportunity to rebuild a bike that he and his father originally built together. The New York Yankees themed bike had been severely damaged by vandals who demolished it with a sledge hammer, a situation that Paul immediately likened to the relationship between he and his father. Seeing an opportunity to mend fences, Junior invited Paul Sr. to his shop to look the bike over and see if he was interested in rebuilding the bike together, an offer the elder Teutul accepted.
Can the Teutul’s rebuild their relationship that infamously ended years ago? You’ll have to tune in and see on Discovery Channel to find out! New episodes will air weekly on Monday nights beginning on May 28th. In the meantime, you can catch the premiere episode of the new season on Discovery’s website.
