Insane IndyCar Crash Leaves Crowd Speechless, Driver Hospitalized
During any given race, it’s hard to realize as a spectator, sometimes, but there are certainly a lot of things going on out there beyond simply knowing how to take turns just right way in order to get the best times. When it comes to other drivers being on the same surface as you and no one wanting to give up that space, things can get rather intense as all those cars moving at high rates of speed can really create a pressure cooker of a situation should something go off the rails. Unfortunately, that situation isn’t always a rarity as you sometimes have to watch bad accidents unfold right in front of your eyes and hope that everything pans out alright.
ESPN.com reports that “IndyCar driver Robert Wickens was hospitalized and is being treated for injuries to his lower extremities, right arm and spine after his car went soaring into the fence at Pocono Raceway in a scary wreck on the seventh lap Sunday afternoon.”
“IndyCar said Wickens also suffered a pulmonary contusion. Wickens will have an MRI and will likely undergo surgery at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, according to the sanctioning body.”
Only eight laps were completed and even though there was much competition left to be had, the focus would be on Wickens as his lack of presence would prove to be incredibly powerful and for good reason.
At the end of the day, crashes are a part of racing but as fans and participants in racing ourselves, we can only hope that Robert is able to make a speedy recovery and get back to racing again. After a whirlwind of a day, we’re sure that all that Wickens and his family are focusing on is his health and our thoughts are with them at this time.
