Take A Trip Back With Us On Our Trip To Petit Le Mans With Michelin
Just a few short weeks ago, the Speed Society crew had the opportunity to cross the country and experience the Motul Petie Le Mans from as close as a group of fans can get without having to wear a helmet. We loaded up and flew to Atlanta, Georgia, then took the scenic trip northeast to Braselton, the home of historic Road Atlanta. Awaiting us was one of the most surreal experiences any car enthusiast could ever hope to take in, as we not only got to watch the race from right there in the pits, but spent time before the race on the track itself. The hosts, our partners over at Michelin, made sure we got to take in everything Petit Le Mans has to offer.
While the teams rolled in and prepared for the race, we were allowed some track time the day before the race, where our very own pro driver Mike Petruzzo climbed behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman and a Grandsport C7 Corvette and hit the track. “It was really awesome to get out on the track the night before the big race and push the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2’s to the limit,” said Petruzzo. Both cars were fitted with the stellar rubber, allowing our wheelman to push the cars hard into the corners while maintaining control, just like the pro’s on the track for the race itself.
Mike was also allowed the rare opportunity to suit up and ride along with Bill Auberlan. “After lapping the track myself, I got to get in the BMW racecar with Bill and ride along in the dark while he put down a fast lap,” said Petruzzo of the ride-along. The rest of the weekend was spent in the paddock and pit areas, watching and learning as the teams prepped for the race, then took to the track for the main event.
Our partnership with Michelin has made it possible for us to participate in the road racing world in ways we never thought possible. It’s great to have them on board as our partner and we can’t wait to see what 2019 and beyond hold!
