The Legend Returns! Ford Unveils The New GT500
Each and every year, there are several cars that we get incredibly excited to see as they’re unveiled at various auto shows. Perhaps one of the biggest for these unveilings is the Detroit Auto Show and this year, the lineup is looking pretty stellar. One of the cars that has really taken the marquee is none other than the 2020 Shelby GT500. The car really has the performance community talking and early indications seem that this thing is going to come through with flying colors when it finally touches tire to pavement.
For now, all that we have, aside from seeing what the car looks like, is the specification release from Ford and the expectations are quite high. As the car gets closer and closer to a fall 2019 release date, we learn that it is going to be the most powerful street legal Ford in history. It’s kind of crazy to think about this dynamic as cars seem to add more and more power year after year. This year, we’re going to see a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine under the hood that promises to crank out what Ford predicts to be north of 700 hp. The car that shares a supercharger with the 2019 Corvette ZR1 promises to be a lot of fun for speed freaks to work their way into.
The video below unveils a couple of more exciting details that could be expected when the car finally does come out. Perhaps one of the things that fans are most excited to see is the dual clutch transmission that sounds like an absolute beast when it rows through the gears, posting incredible shift times under 100 milliseconds, says Ford. All early signs point to the fact that this is going to be a big winner when the calendar is getting ready to flip over later this year. Only time will tell but color us impressed.
