Teen Driver Who Went Airborne, Hit the Wall at 172mph, Speaks Out For First Time

Many who have managed to climb to heights that some could only dream of will tell you the same thing. No matter what obstacles they’ve had thrown in their paths, there’s never been an option other than keeping on going with that “never give up” mentality. Even though the road can throw some different challenges at just about anybody, getting past the adversity is an important aspect of reaching those big-picture goals. Sometimes, it might be a small hurdle encountered but other times, the challenges might seem like unmovable mountains. In a situation like this, it would be very easy to see how the situation could look just about impossible to push through, however, at just 17 years old, this Formula 3 racer is taking it all in stride.

After going airborne and hitting the wall backward at 172 mph, nearly creating a collision at a 90-degree angle and fracturing her spine in several places, nobody would have blamed Sophia Floersch if she wanted to hang up her helmet. However, after 11 hours of surgery, it seems like her first public reappearance in front of cameras has her looking forward to the next time that she can get behind the wheel again. Such a situation could be a complete mind bender, turning somebody off to the thought of ever racing again. After all, this is nothing short of a near-death situation. Sophia, though, seems like she’s going to refuse to let anything get in her way of eventually competing in Formula One.

ABC News was able to catch up with Sophia shortly after her 18th birthday, a milestone that allowed her to finally get her license to drive on public roads in Germany not too long after the accident. During the interview, it seems like she has had her attention solely focused on what exactly it’s going to take to be able to get behind the wheel of her racing machine once again. After the accident on November 18, 2018 that took the world by storm, she predicts a possible return in February or March of 2019.
