$15+ Million in Illegal Hypercars to be Auctioned Off Without a Reserve.
Imagine climbing the ladder to the point where $13 million in cars was possible. Now, imagine the government taking them all and auctioning them to the highest bidder. It just so happens that when said ladder is climbed immorally or illegally, that might just be the case.
For Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, that dystopian fantasy has become his reality. The cars were seized as a part of an investigation revolving around misappropriation of state funds. The son of Equatorial Guinea President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, can only wait and see what the auction yields, now. The group of automobiles is nothing short of cinema worthy, too. Among the cars, we see a Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari LaFerrari, Koenigsegg One:1, and even a McLaren P1. It really seems like Teodoro had his pick of the litter.
The collection is made up of 25 cars. This means that they’re expected to bring an average of almost half a million dollars. We almost forgot to mention that the vast majority of these dream machines only have a couple of hundred miles on their respective odometers. In other words, we’re looking at what’s basically a group of new cars. For those who are in the market for a slightly used hypercar, this might be their time to shine!
Each and every car will be rolling across the block at the Bonhams auction that’s due on September 29. It’ll all be going down at the Bonmont Golf & Country Club near Geneva. The cars are being sold on behalf of the Swiss government. All proceeds are said to be donated to social programs in Equatorial Guinea.
To make matters even more egregious, this isn’t the first time Teodoro has been in trouble, either. A similar stunt had some of his cars on the auction block back in 2013 as well.
It just so happens that this little adventure was a bit more expensive. The last time, the tally only added up to $4 million.
