Ford Recalls 550K Trucks, SUV For Faulty Seats.
When it comes to the words that automakers pretty much never want to hear or say, I would think that “recall” would be up near the top of the list. There’s nothing that deflates a bottom line more than repairing cars that have already been sold. In turn, they end up getting absolutely no return on the money spent. This also comes with an impact that a brand could be taking when people learn about the shortcomings. However, it’s certainly a necessity and good to see manufacturers step up, when necessary.
In a game where competition is high, you have to be on your game when it comes to designing a product that people are going to want to buy repeatedly and it isn’t going to come back through your doors at the end of the day for you to start wrenching on again.
Recently, Ford announced that hundreds of thousands of their vehicles have been recalled for safety issues. This is related to the construction of their seats. Essentially, the company says that in the Explorer, Expedition, and F-150, the seats might have been assembled incorrectly. In the event of a crash, this could mean that occupants might not be restrained by the seat’s structure. It’s not hard to see how, if left unresolved, this might be a cause for concern as riders will go flying in a crash situation.
