First Ever Shelby GT500 (VIN 001) $1.1 Million, Finally Delivered With Special Option Nobody Else Can Order

When the first-ever 2020 Shelby GT500 was won at Barrett-Jackson back in January of 2019, it made for what we’re sure was a heck of a wait. The car that everyone saw roll across the block wasn’t the actual machine up for grabs. Instead, the winner would be able to spec out the first-ever 2020 GT500 their own way. Well, the time is finally here. Let’s just say that it was well worth the wait.

Late last year, we would see the first-ever 2020 come off of the assembly line. The car would prove to be an exciting platform for performance enthusiasts across the landscape. I think it goes without saying the latest Shelby GT500 offers up cutting edge performance. With 760hp it’s one of the most powerful on the market today.

Many times, we will see cars skyrocket in value just because they have the number “1” attached to their VIN. It’s one of those things about selecting cars that might not make sense to the vast majority of people. However, being able to have the first of something is a privilege that massive money will be spent on. In addition, this kind of auction usually benefits charity, as well, as is the case here. This time, the benefit was for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

This car would offer up something a bit more special, though.

As an ode to the original Green Hornet, the car would deliver a very special color combo. Sorry, guys, this isn’t one that you’re going to be able to order. It’s a true one-of-a-kind.

With a lime base and a candy green topcoat, the machine was designed to mimic the 1968 Shelby EXP500. For those unfamiliar, the EXP500 (aka “experimental prototype”) was essentially a collaboration between Ford and Shelby. The idea was to see if there was any magic in building a car together. As we all now know, the partnership would eventually flourish and become one of the most iconic in all of the motorsports.

The current owner of the EXP500 also happens to be one of the owners of the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction. It turns out that Craig Jackson also decided that he wanted to add the new GT500 to his personal collection as well. He did so at the cost of $1.1 million.

No other Shelby is going to bring that price tag in this decade or the next and probably beyond. However, this one offers up something special that Jackson just couldn’t pass up.
