Is Ceramic Coating Legit or Are You Being Sold Snake Oil?

Detailing a car is definitely a labor of love. For someone who is really into keeping their car cleaned, it can sort of becoming therapeutic. For those who don’t really care to spend all that much time cleaning their cars, though, it’s a pain in the neck. As it turns out, not all car enthusiasts want to spend a bunch of their free time detailing their car.

For these people, there’s something called ceramic coating. Don’t get us wrong, it’s not just designed for lazy people. However, the ceramic coating can make sure that you don’t have to spend as much time cleaning your automobile. Well, at least that’s what they advertise.

After all, there are hundreds of products, if not more, dedicated to keeping just the outside of a car spotless. While many of these have great merit, we’re sure that plenty just slaps a name on a bottle and sell whatever they want.

So, is ceramic coating really really worth it? To get a legitimate ceramic coat done, it might cost a couple of hundred dollars, if not more. Is this investment really going to go that far toward keeping your car clean? If you ask Ed Bolian, the man behind VINWiki, he was a little bit skeptical. In fact, he recalls that the news of a trade-in sporting ceramic coating would go in one ear and out the other when he worked at an exotic car dealership.

However, eventually, the ceramic bug bit Ed. Before long, he found himself applying the coating to a black Porsche in his stable. As a self-proclaimed neglecter of cars, a black car is probably not the best decision for someone like Ed. However, it seems as if the ceramic really went a long way toward helping the cleanliness effort.
