There Was Almost a New Midnight Club Game – Until Drama Seemed to Flush the Dream
For younger car guys, there’s one unlikely thing that many of us seem to share in common. Those who grew up in an era when video games became popular know that racing games were a staple of life. The game of choice will definitely change depending on who we ask and how old they are. However, for a lot of 20-somethings and 30-somethings, Midnight Club created some fond memories.
In a world dominated by games that were centered around the track racing, Midnight Club brought something new. Instead, the video game would take the action to the streets. It seems to be one of the first of its kind which was then followed up with titles like Need for Speed: Underground.
For those who don’t remember too well, Midnight Club would eventually provide the groundwork for a couple of sequels. However, it has been quite some time since we’ve heard anything in relation to the title. It’s kind of odd when we consider the fact that this title was the biggest moneymaker for Rockstar Games until the release of the little game by the name of Grand Theft Auto.
Was it just Midnight Club’s time to be left behind as it would grind to a halt in 2009?
What some people didn’t realize is that there was a new version of the game slated to come out just a couple of years ago. The tile was working its way through the rumor mill with lots of hopeful speculation. The fifth installment of the series seemed to be a sure thing to find its way to consoles. However, there were all sorts of things that blocked the eventual release.
With the video below, we get some of the details of the story that eventually led to the demise of this popular street racing title. It turns out that things behind the scenes in the studio weren’t exactly straightforward. With so many heads trying to come together, sometimes, things just don’t work out. It’s not exactly clear if these differences were the only reasons why the franchise fell apart. However, some of these brutal anecdotes are likely to have something to do with it.
