Harbor Freight Issues Yet Another NEW Recall on Jack Stands
When it comes to Harbor Freight jack stands, it seems like they’ve been having a little bit of an issue recently. Back in May, there was a recall for stands because the locking pawls wouldn’t correctly engage. This would cause the stand to potentially slip and cause a vehicle to fall.
Eventually, the recall would be made and people would be able to get a replacement stand or a refund. However, it seems as if there have been some issues with the replacement stands as well.
As of Tuesday, Harbor Freight has recalled the replacement units. CEO of Harbor Freight, Eric Schmidt, tells us that the replacement items are getting the recall due to a “Welding defect in a small number” of units.
The part number directly affected by the recall is 56373. However, they’re going to accept returns of any model of Pittsburgh jack stand that customers think may be unsafe. This comes in lieu of an investigation that says that item numbers outside of the recall should be okay. However, the brand seems to be taking up a “Better safe than sorry” approach to the matter. Those that wish to participate will get a refund or store credit.
Schmidt took a moment to apologize to all Harbor Freight customers in the statement. In the statement, he also tells us “While we’ve dramatically grown our team of engineers and inspectors, and intensified our tests and inspections, I assure you that the lessons learned from this will drive further improvement.”
Harbor Freight encourages customers to check out the SKU on their jack stands and return them if necessary. If someone is unsure, taking a stand into a Harbor Freight location is also encouraged. It seems like something that we wouldn’t mess around with. After all, it’s a life or death risk you’re taking.
While the recall isn’t great for Harbor Freight, it seems as if the company has been continuously improving its budget-oriented offerings. If one thing is certainly to be said about them, it’s that their return and replacement policies seem to be second to none.
