Touring a Brand New 1990 Chevrolet 454 SS – It Didn’t Even Make it to the Dealer! (Original Oil and All!)
For automotive collectors looking for value, they sometimes want something that’s as untouched as possible. In other words, when machines get modified or driven around a lot, they begin to lose their value for certain collectors. We aren’t saying that a low mileage Chevrolet 454 SS is necessarily worthless. However, finding one that hasn’t even been dealer prepared certainly adds a little bit more to that bottom line.
This time, we tune in with a true find from the Bring-A-Trailer classifieds. Listed for sale, this time is a 1990 Chevrolet 454 SS that is probably as raw of a truck as one will ever find. When we say “Raw,” we basically mean that nobody, including a dealership, really got their fingers on the truck. In other words, this thing was exactly what someone would get their hands on if they purchased a brand new version of the machine straight from Chevrolet.
As we tune in and follow the tour and story time behind the truck, we learn, piece by piece, about what makes this machine so special. Given the expansive record-saving that the owner did, this thing is truly different than pretty much every other 454 SS on planet earth.
For those who want to say that they have a one of a kind machine, this is probably about as close as it gets. A truck that started out that’s already pretty rare is made even rarer by the fact that lots of these things have been crashed, modified, or simply abused. This one, though, is not only in the best shape that it could possibly be in but presumably hasn’t even been sat in all that much.
At the end of the day, it’s going to take a very specific collector to want to pay high dollar for this thing. However, for those who simply want to appreciate their machines without driving them, this truck could yield some serious cash. While we are of the position that rides like this are meant to be driven, in many cases, it would take a lot of mulling it over to get behind the wheel of something that’s 30 years old and only has 5 miles on it.
