US Coast Guard Surf Training Video has the Power to Truly Put us on Edge
When it comes to the Coast Guard, odds are, they aren’t going to be battling with action movie like sequences every day. However, when duty calls, it doesn’t matter what the weather is like. At the end of the day, these men and women take on the responsibility of making sure that the seas are safe, even if mother nature gets a little bit moody.
Involved in becoming a member of the Coast Guard, there is extensive training necessary. Some parts of this training aren’t as interesting as others. However, we would argue that surf training might be one of the most interesting to watch.
The training is exactly as it sounds, taking members of the Coast Guard and thrusting them into a situation where things get just a little bit tumultuous. As they are put in rough seas with the help of purpose-built vessels, they are left to their facilities to be able to handle the insane waves.
At the end of the day, they have to be ready for absolutely everything even if it’s not likely to happen on a regular basis. It’s really a case of “Better safe than sorry,” should a member of the Coast Guard end up battling intense weather conditions.
By following along with the video below, we get to join in with these epic training scenarios from USCG Station Yaquina Bay in Newport, OR.
As the boats approach the rough seas, we truly don’t know what’s going to happen. Once they’re rocked by the massive waves, we always get this feeling in our gut that something is going to go wrong. However, these ladies and gentlemen are the most likely to be able to take on a violent current with waves like these and come out on the other side in one piece.
