Downright Insane 1000+ RWHP C6 ZR1 SCREAMS Through the Streets
When the C6 Corvette ZR1 originally rolled on the streets, enthusiasts couldn’t keep their jaws off the floor. The machine boasted 638 horsepower in a lightweight frame that was sure to make the most of every ounce of muscle. Even more fun comes when we learned that the platform was very modification friendly. With a robust base to build from, tuners have been able to get some serious power out of the existing architecture.
This time, we ride along with a ZR1 that got the ultimate treatment from the folks at Vengeance Racing. If there’s one place to really get the most out of a car like this, the crew Vengeance are your guys.
The shop tells us that when the ZR1 was dropped off, it was bone stock. However, before long, they were determined to turn it into a “Maximum effort, tire-shredding masterpiece!” The goal at hand was to try to keep as much factory drivability as possible while delivering enough ground-pounding power to make this thing feel like a freak to drive.
The craziest part is that, in order to get to over 1000 hp, the bottom end of the engine remained untouched. Instead, the following modifications would really make this monster sing as Vengeance worked its magic.
– Kong Performance 5″ Cold Air Intake
– Kong Performance 112mm Throttle Body
– Kong Performance 2650 LS9 Supercharger
– Kong Performance Upgraded 2650 Lid
– GripTech 2.40″ Upper Pulley
– Late Model Engines Brodix BR9 Cylinder Heads
– Vengeance Racing VRPD-3 Camshaft Kit
– ATI 14% Overdrive Balancer Kit
– Custom Fuel System
– Radium Engineering Fuel Rails
– Vengeance Racing Flex Fuel Kit w/ 1,700cc Fuel injectors
– Vengeance Racing Valve Cover Package
– RPM Transmissions Level VI TR6060 Transmission
– ZL-1 Add On’s Tow Hook
– Prospeed Autosports A2W Ice Tank
– Edelbrock Performance Heat Exchanger
– Kong Performance Hidden Intercooler Expansion Tank
– Mightymouse Solutions “Wild” Catch Can System
– Kooks Headers and Exhaust 2″ Long Tube Headers w/ 3″ XPipe
– Monster Clutch Co. LT1-SC Triple Disc Clutch Kit
– MGW Shifters Short Throw Shifter
When all was said and done, the combination was able to deliver 1015 rwhp and 977 rwtq to the dyno rollers. This was done with the help of E85 fuel that can be found at a typical gas pump and WITHOUT any methanol injection.
Below, Vengeance Racing takes us through the build and gives us a bit of a taste of the finished product. We have to warn you, though, because the intense whine mixed with the exhaust note is incredibly likely to send a chill down your spine! – Gearhead Flicks
