Where Did All of the Exciting Car Colors Go? Let’s Find Out

Back in the era of the first rotation of muscle cars in the late 60s, we saw some pretty crazy combinations come to life. No matter which manufacturer we were talking about back then, Cars really had a way of popping right up off of the canvas. With the different color combos like “Plum Crazy” or “Grabber Blue,” brands like Dodge and Ford would really chisel out an exciting opportunity to get a special coating on your car.

Now, we get that not every single car on the road those days was some bright shade straight from the rainbow. However, we also realize that it was much more popular back then than it is today. Sure, every now and then, we might find someone who wants to be bold and have a color that sticks out. However, the vast majority of cars on the road in 2021 are somewhere between black and white with many adorning a nice shade of silver.

So what exactly is it that has made car companies and consumers go from a rainbow of different colors to the most basic and boring colors possible? All of this comes in an age where paint technology is so advanced that manufacturers could realistically be doing some wild things.

Well, the answer to that question has a couple of different facets that make it really make sense.

This time, the crew from Donut Media takes us inside of that exact question to try and get to the bottom of it. In any case, there always seems to be some sort of interesting reason that can help explain while why certain decades have more of a taste for something different than others.

Where could our color preferences take us next?
