Is the C8 Worth 5x More? C5 vs C8 Drag Race, Roll Race, Brake Test
As is most certainly the case with most performance cars, each Chevrolet Corvette is a building block for the next. Ideally, General Motors learns a lot from each iteration of the car and applies everything that they have gathered to the next iteration to make it the best that it can possibly be.
Over the years, this has led to cars that are much more technically advanced on a variety of different levels. However, we cannot help but wonder just how much a model can be expected to grow within about 20 years or so.
This time, we get to check in with a C5 Corvette alongside a C8 Corvette to see what exactly a car that was released back in 1997 looks like when it’s stacked up against the current version of its lineage that was born in the year 2020. Certainly, there has been a lot of development in between but exactly how much?
In order to get to the bottom of that question, the crew over at The Fast Lane Car has grabbed one of each, stacking them up side-by-side to see exactly what has happened with the Corvette during this evolutionary period.
Of course, the newer car is going to make more horsepower thanks to its 6.2L V8 that’s capable of 495 hp from its engine in the rear of the machine. In the other lane, we find a 5.7L V8 that cranks out a stout 345 hp under the front-engined hood of the C5. The power differential is really just where the story gets started, though. By tuning in with the video below, we get to see how the pair stacks up against one another in a drag race, roll race, and brake test.
While the C5 is a cool classic car at this point, it’s hardly a competitor when it comes to comparing it to a car several generations later.
