Acceleration Testing In the New Ford GT!

Brooks over at Drag Times has built one hell of a collection of badass rides, but lately he’s really held our interest with the videos he’s made about his yellow Ford GT.

The latest iteration of Ford’s heralded supercar, the newest generation GT has become a topic of widespread discussion thanks to its combination of looks, performance and (relative) low price. Interested buyers had to be approved by Ford, then approved and put on a wait list for the car, which began arriving to their owners a few months back.

As with any supercar, the GT wasn’t mass produced in a factory designed to crank out as many cars as possible each day. Instead, each car is painstaking assembled by hand to exacting specifications and to the highest standards of quality. That’s part of what it takes to put the “super” in supercar.

Brooks has been driving his car with a great deal of restraint, keeping his foot out of the throttle for the most part in order to reach the recommended break-in mileage before stomping on the gas and letting the boosted V6 powerplant loose on the roadway. He finally reached that point and after taking the car to a morning meet up with several of his buddies, he hit the street to test out the GT’s acceleration stats. As you’d expect, they’re pretty impressive.

Keep in mind, this is on the factory tires on the street, not drag radials on a drag strip. The car consistently hit sixty MPH from a standing start in 3.1 seconds and hit 100 MPH in 6.5 seconds. There’s probably considerable improvements left in the tire and track surface combo, but Brooks doesn’t seem interested in jumping onto the idea of dumping the factory tires in favor of stickier tires that are built for drag racing.
