Add 231 Horsepower to a Motorhome Engine With Bolt-On Parts!
In this day and age, power can come from absolutely anywhere. We’re talking, of course, about the wide variety of engines that you find under the hoods of custom machines scattered all over the car scene. It’s a beautiful day and age where you can go to just about any junkyard and find something to power your project with. With a little bit of repurposing, even the most unlikely of candidates can provide a nice little powerplant for your project. This time, the guys over at Hot Rod Magazine take on the unique challenge of plucking an engine from the grips of a motor home and changing a couple of things up to make it an unlikely beast.
Now, even straight out of its donor vehicle, the engine did make decent power with a whole lot of torque. However, after some top end upgrades that would amount to a couple of thousand bucks, this thing is screaming and would make a great addition to a wide variety of machines. I mean, a couple of grand might be a lot of money to justify dumping into an engine of this caliber but if you can get a power plant like this one and the transmission for little to no cost, it kind of puts things in perspective as to what you’re spending on the ordeal.
Check out the video below that shows off exactly what can be accomplished with an old boat anchor of an engine when you toss a little bit of TLC in its direction. This thing would have otherwise been left for dead and thanks to a little bit of dedication and a keen eye for what they had in front of them, these guys were able to breathe a little bit more life into the engine to repurpose it to be enjoyed instead of scrapped.
