Bicoastal Battle: Boddie Vs Skoot At No Guts No Glory
No Guts No Glory is, at least for most of the racing world, the event that marks the end of the season. While there are some other races through the winter in south Florida and south Texas, as far as major heads-up racing goes, it pretty much ends with NGNG at Orlando Speed World in mid December.
Being such a huge race, NGNG brings cars from all over the nation, with drivers looking to end the year with a bang, either literally or figuratively. While George “Skoot” Williams didn’t have that far to go to get to Orlando from his home base in South Carolina, Jermaine Boddie had nearly 3,000 miles to drive from Northern California. Neither driver wanted to end the year with a loss, though, and you can tell they both came intent on winning the massive pot they had riding on the race.
We get to see each car make a shakedown pass, and both of them look and sound like solid runs, making it hard to pick a camp to ride with going into the actual race itself. Boddie’s twin turbo Nova and Skoot’s big-inch nitrous Camaro both look and sound great, and both have huge followings across the nation, so when the race went down, the starting line filled with onlookers, each of whom likely had some money of their own riding on the race as well.
After they both laid down some fresh rubber on the sticky OSW surface, they backed up and began easing into the beams. As soon as Boddie staged, the amber lights dropped and both cars left hard and straight. It looked like Boddie hit the tree better than Skoot, leaving the Camaro to play catch up, never and enviable position when you’re running a badass twin turbo hotrod.
Boddie would go on to take the win, turning on the win light in his lane and locking up the money and the bicoastal bragging rights, at least until they race again, which certainly could happen in the not-too-distant future.
