Bird on Bird Crime – David “Bird” Jones vs “Birdman” at Winter Meltdown
Bird really is the word when it comes to badasses in the no prep world. While the competition has certainly stepped up and made it hard on him to dominate like he has in the post, there’s no denying that James Finney’s twin turbo “Birdman” Trans Am is always listed among the favorites to win at any event he shows up at. Then you have David “Bird” Jones in his similar-but-different Trans Am packing a huge nitrous injected engine and some tongue-in-cheek “Not Birdman” window decals to help confused race fans. And let’s not forget Jerry Bird and the Bird Boyz Probe, a car that had a stellar 2017 but started 2018 of quite literally on the wrong foot after rolling the car at the Street Outlaws Live filming in Tucson, AZ last weekend.
However, this clip from our buddy Aaron at NXGonzoVideo is from the last race of 2017, Project X Productions’ Winter Meltdown 2 held at San Antonia Raceway in south Texas. The first two birds drew each other and faced on to see which of these badass F-Bodies would be able to hook their horsepower on the cold, unprepped track. They do the best they can to add their own prep to the track with their burnouts, then line up and stage for the race.
As soon as the green light drops, however, the race that should have been so good fell flat on its face when Jones’ car spun at the hit. David pedaled the car and jumped back on the throttle, and the car did hook that time, carrying the front end just off the track and pushing left into the opposite lane. But it most likely wouldn’t have mattered, since Finney was busy ripping the track a new one and laying down a killer pass that would have been tough for Bird to beat on a solid a-to-b pass.
Look for these two to cross paths again, and don’t think Jones won’t be looking for revenge on Birdman next time they find themselves opposite each other on the track.
