BREAKING: 2020 C8 Corvette Reveal Date Announced

Update: Chevrolet has officially admitted that the mid-engine C8 is coming. It wasn’t exactly a secret but we just needed that confirmation from the General. It really puts our minds at ease. The official reveal date will be July 18, 2019.

Via Car and Driver, “This first Corvette C8 model we will see in July is the base Corvette Stingray, which will kick off the lineup. Initially, the C8 will use an upgraded version of the current car’s pushrod 6.2-liter V-8, which we suspect will be upgraded to produce somewhere around 500 horsepower. The engine will also be renamed LT2 to reflect its new location in the car.”

The saga of the next generation of Chevrolet Corvette is surely a confusing one. Unlike any other release that we’ve seen, Chevrolet has really kept all details of the mid-engine Corvette close to their chests. As it turns out, we’ve had the go through all sorts of spy footage and other leaks in order to learn anything about the car. To this very day, Chevrolet has not even openly admitted that they’re working on a new generation of Corvette at all. For all we know, this thing could be a completely different platform. However, from the behind-the-scenes leaks that we have seen, people seem to think otherwise.

One of the most recent leaks that has come from Corvette Forum is an options list allegedly for the next generation of Corvette. The list seems to show a couple of combinations that we have never seen on a Corvette before including the color “Accelerate Yellow Metallic” says Corvette Forum.

In addition, and perhaps more exciting, we see that there will be another engine that we’ve yet to see in any General Motors platform in the LT2. We’re left to presume that this is an expansion upon existing general motors architecture in the LT series. In addition, this leaked order form tells us that we can also expect an 8-speed dual clutch gearbox.

This is yet another piece of evidence that perhaps the new Corvette is coming. We’re still being left in the dark by General Motors on how official this news actually is. It seems strange that they won’t even give us confirmation that a new platform is in the works. Whether or not we would be fools to expect a Corvette to be in the making shortly is yet to be determined. However, if the mid-engine Corvette is coming soon, it seems like the list of options is slowly rearing its head.
