Chasing Down The Holy Grail Of Classic Fords
Almost as interesting as the design itself, the history behind certain cars is simply fascinating. Sure, today, we might look at something like the 1934 Edsel Ford Speedster as a work of art. One might be led to think that something that was all smooth sailing as it came together seamlessly. Something this beautiful couldn’t have had much pushback from executives at Ford, right?
As it turns out, the story behind this car is rather tumultuous. In fact, some might even say that it was built on the back of some pretty major disagreement.
So where does a car like this and up in this day and age? Surely, it has to have changed hands over the years at some point. Would it just end up bouncing around between collectors? Did the car and up in some sort of automotive museum? Today, we’re going to dive into just that story to get to the bottom of it all.
These days, the machine is in the hands of Bill Warner. Warner is the Founder and Chairman of The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Foundation, according to VINWiki. They tell us that he has spent his life trying to find significant cars. The 1934 Edsel Ford Speedster just so happens to be one of those machines. Warner went on a bit of a wild goose chase to track down what they’re calling the “Holy Grail.”
In this one, he tells us the story about how the car rose to greatness. There might’ve been a couple of bumps along the way but we think of those bumps really molded the story that makes the car great. Sometimes, it’s not what the car does on paper that makes it amazing. Sometimes, it just so happens to be the journey that a machine has taken that makes it truly great.
