Chris Evans’s Wild 1967 Camaro Built by Robert Downey Jr.
How nice must it be to be famous? Not only do you have a ton of money yourself. You also acquire lots of famous friends with money who like to give you nice things. Talk about the life!
This time, we check out one of those nice celebrity gifts that Robert Downey Jr. wanted to give to his buddy, Chris Evans. When he finally settled on an answer, Downey would decide that a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro would fit the bill perfectly. However, this wouldn’t be just any old Camaro. Oh, no. It would certainly be converted into something above and beyond!
Now, with many celebrities, we’d probably assume that they’d be pretty hands-off with something like this. Drop it off at a shop like SpeedKore and let them do their work, right?
As it turns out, Downey Jr. actually had his fingers in the formula that would end up making the car become what it would eventually turn into.
What we would eventually see as the finished product is a beast of an American muscle machine that left no stone unturned. The LS3 powered car would be torn down and rebuild with everything from the wheels to the interior and the color customized to fit a very specific profile. They definitely took a couple of bold chances with this one and it turned out really working!
In fact, Evans, who was described as not being a car guy when he received the car, ended up bringing the monster back for a 2.9L Whipple supercharger. Nowadays, the beast is capable of 730 hp on 12 psi on pump gas. Imagine tearing around town in a classic like that!
That’s just where it starts, though. Below, we tune in with a segment from Jay Leno’s Garage that takes a deep dive into every square inch of what really brings this monster to life!
