Do High Performance Air Filters Actually Work?
For those who are looking to get a little bit more performance out of their vehicle or find somewhere to start modifying it, there are definitely some basic steps that you might want to take first just to see how your vehicle might respond to modifications and if you can figure out a way to squeeze a little bit of more performance out of it whether that be through more power or maybe something like touch of extra fuel efficiency. However, on the flipside, you really have to wonder if some of the modifications that you’ll find on the shelves are necessarily even worth sinking your hard earned money into.
Perhaps one of the more controversial modifications where people wonder if there’s actually any benefit at all would be that of an air filter. After all, while it is an essential component of your engine and essentially the first bottleneck to making power in any capacity, it seems like a filter is… a filter, right? Could there possibly be any benefit in picking out a more expensive air filter over the cheap paper drop in time that you will find at the parts store? While there has been a lot of speculation and maybe some tests that didn’t quite observe the right criteria, this time, we check out an extensive test that is trying to put the argument to rest, once and for all.
If you check out the video below, you’ll be able to ride along with the test from the guys over at Engineering Explained that attempts to take this concept and pound an answer out of a couple of different filters. This one is about to toss you more info than you’ll ever need about filters in your direction, so strap up and get ready because this one is going to be a doozy!
