Excavator Tears Down a Cooling Tower From 600′ Off the Ground

In this world, there are a lot of dangerous jobs. Sometimes, the risk is high but the job simply has to be done. Fortunately, technology has made it so that these sorts of jobs might be able to be done with a little bit less risk. Perhaps, they can even be done from a remote location. At the end of the day, if there is a situation that puts human beings in peril, working to take that risk away is probably the smart decision. Lots of smart people put their brains to the test to solve these problems every day.

In this one, we take a look at a responsibility that would traditionally involve rather high risk. At first glance, it almost appears as if there is a person in an excavator chipping away at a structure that needed to be demolished, all while hanging from the same structure. As the bricks fall, we can’t help but feel like the piece of equipment isn’t far behind.

However, before long, we discover that this is being done completely via remote. That’s right, if everything comes tumbling down, no human being is likely to be hurt in the process.

In fact, it’s rather mesmerizing to watch as the mechanism continues to move around the top of the structure. As it goes, it chips away and the pieces fall. Essentially, this is done to remove height from the top before being able to demolish. At over 530 feet high, the Mülheim-Kärlich Nuclear Power Plant structure needed to be shorter before collapsing according to the HD1080ide YouTube channel. Once the structure was brought down to about half the original height, support pillars were removed. This was also done via a remotely controlled excavator.

By following along with the video below, we take a peek at the mesmerizing process that is done from a safe location. This is just one example of how technology is making the world a much safer place.
