First Drive: Ken Block Already Got to Wheel the Mustang Mach-E (Will he Hoon it?)
For those interested in the future of everything automotive, it’s an exciting time to be alive. Electric cars have finally hit their stride and really have caught on as more than a gimmick. Therefore, it’s time to start moving toward really rounding the vehicles out. Long gone are the days where we question if EVs can work as daily driver machines. Tesla has come into the market strongly and showed us that this sort of commuter vehicle can work well.
In the past couple of weeks, we have seen some major developments unfold on the electric front. Of course, the Tesla Cybertruck has really dominated headlines. However, Ford’s new Mustang Mach-E has been holding its fair share of attention as well. It seems to have stirred the pot just a little bit by using the Mustang nameplate. However, separate that drama from how the vehicle actually does its job and I think that this thing has some real potential. It might be the first actual viable Tesla competitor.
This time, we get to see some footage that has one of the internet’s favorite drivers in Ken Block testing out the Mach-E. What Block is driving doesn’t appear to be the finished product but instead, an earlier prototype. However, it does look like the machine should be enough to allow him to get the general feel for how the vehicle will perform.
Down in the video below, we can follow along as Block takes the Mach-E to town. Because this vehicle was important to Ford, we couldn’t get the opportunity to see Block unleash all of his driving ability on the platform. However, he does give us a little bit of a teaser when he says that maybe, just maybe, he would consider using it as a build platform for a Gymkhana vehicle.
