Ford Recalls 268,000 Vehicles Due to Faulty Door Latch That Could Fail While Driving

Ford is recalling a variety of vehicles as an issue with headlights has emerged. The recall will cover about 268,000 units, mainly in North America. The recall covers the 2014-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. It also covers the 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta. Vehicles registered in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Washington are affected. There are supposedly other vehicles involved from Mexico, Canada, and US territories as well.

Door Latch Issues

The recall is related to the door latch mechanisms in these cars. Ford says that the issue might not allow affected vehicles to close their doors. However, after several tries, closing the door may be possible. However, doors that do manage to close might soon find their way open again if the latch fails. Dealers will replace the latches. Ford will begin to notify those involved at the beginning of May. Until then, it’s probably best to proceed with caution and always wear a seatbelt.

When it comes to the words that automakers pretty much never want to hear or say, we would think that “recall” would be up near the top of the list.
