Ford Will Lose the Designer of the Ford GT and Mustang This Spring
Moray Callum, the Vice President of design for Ford is retiring this spring, says a release from the Ford Media Center.
A release from the company informs us that “One of the auto industry’s most influential design leaders will retire from Ford Motor Company this spring and be succeeded by an accomplished global industry veteran.”
Callum has had quite a career in the industry. Over time, he has put together a 38-year development career involved some impressive projects. The nameplates he was involved in are too numerous to list. However, some of the most recent projects that he was involved with were the Mustang Mach-E, Ford Bronco/Bronco Sport, and 2021 F-150.
I think that some would argue that his most outstanding accomplishment with the blue oval, though, was his work on the 2016 Ford GT. He also was responsible for design in the 2015 Ford Mustang.
Callum started his career with Chrysler in 1982 before bouncing to PSA Peugeot Citroën and working as a consultant designed for Ghia and Aston Martin.
In 1995, he would find his way to Ford for the first time, putting his mark on vehicles like the Ford Taurus, Super Duty Pickups, and the Excursion. For those fond of Ford design at the turn of the 21st century, they were fans of Callum and might not have even known it to be so!
It seems as if Callum didn’t stay put for all that long at any of these stops as he would eventually head to Mazda in 2001 where he would be credited in the design of the MX-5 Miata, helping the brand reinvent itself as something a little bit more sporty and exciting.
He would come back to Ford in 2006 where he would spend a substantial amount of time up until his retirement that’s scheduled to come in a couple of months.
