Multi-Time Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda Passes Away At 70 Years Old, World Pays Trubute
As they say, legends never die. However, we regret to inform everyone that TMZ announced that Legendary Formula 1 racer Niki Lauda has moved on from the physical world. All that he has accomplished on and off the track is sure to keep his legacy alive here on Earth. His family broke the news to fans Monday, saying “With deep sadness, we announce that our beloved Niki has peacefully passed away with his family on Monday.”
The family continued, “His unique achievements as an athlete and entrepreneur are and will remain unforgettable, his tireless zest for action, his straightforwardness and his courage remain.”
“A role model and a benchmark for all of us, he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather away from the public, and he will be missed.”
Even when he passed at 70-years-old, Lauda still had heavy ties to the world of Formula 1 racing. He’s held a close relationship with five-time F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton. We’re even told that he had an influence when Hamilton signed with McLaren back in 2013.
As far as his own personal accomplishments in F1, Niki was well decorated. He was able to seize the F1 drivers’ championship in 1975 and ’77 with Ferrari. He would do it all again in 1984 with McLaren. It takes a heck of an individual to win the championship once. Lauda pulled it in three times! Just to put that all in perspective, that’s good enough to tie for sixth all time.
Below, we recall one moment that called for quite a scare but really showed what the legend was made of. Prior to all of the amazing safety gear that we have available today, Niki got into a tangle at the Nurburgring. Things would end up getting rather hot as his car would go up in flames. Lauda was able to overcome the horrific incident with flying colors. He got back behind the wheel once again just six weeks after the fact!
