GM Bringing Back The Hummer But Fully Electric!

In the scheme of the automotive landscape, lots of nameplates have been flipped on their heads. For example, the Dodge Charger used to be nothing but a two door muscle car. These days, though, there’s nothing fewer than four doors insight when it comes to the Charger.

Another example is one that most would probably rather forget and many don’t even know about. The Chevrolet Nova has become known as an American muscle machine. While the first go-around did offer up a four-door version, it was still much more aggressive than what the later iteration would vomit out. If you’re looking for a good cringe, the Nova that was pushed out in 1985 provided just that. The car was built to be an economy-minded ride based off of a Toyota.

With a car like the Charger and Challenger, it appears as if Dodge hit the revival nail on the head. Could GM possibly do the same with something like the Hummer? Rumor has it that they might just be planning to bring back the nameplate and it might get an entire facelift. How much of a facelift?

This is where things begin to get weird.

It’s been rumored, via Reuters, that the next generation Hummer, if there is one, could be fully electric. Obviously, this would be a complete 180° from what we’re used to with the gas-guzzling Hummer. The potential for a Hummer is tied in with what’s being called the BT1 which is the platform for an electric truck or SUV. General Motors is said to have invested some $3 billion in bringing the platform along.

As far as what we can expect from the program, it will be rolled out in steps. In 2021, we can expect an electric pickup truck. In 2022, we should see a high-performance version of said pickup. By 2023, the brand should be rolling out its electric SUV. This is where the speculation begins about the possibility of a Hummer. Sources are scattered on the matter, but it has allegedly been talked about that the Hummer name is “under consideration.”
