Go For a Test Drive In The The 840-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

After seemingly endless anticipation, the Demons are beginning to arrive! No, this isn’t the tag line for some apocalyptic blockbuster, it’s the arrival of Dodge’s quarter mile-conquering factory built hotrod, the Challenger SRT Demon!

Many of you remember us having the opportunity to take the Demon for a test drive (or nine, don’t judge me) back in the summer when we were invited to join several other automotive media outlets at the Demon Test Drive in Indianapolis. We spent the morning at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway getting intimate with the SRT Durango and the Challenger Hellcat Widebody, two of the automaker’s other exciting 2018 models.

But for us, the star of the show was the Demon, and the Demon belongs on the drag strip, so we made the haul across town to Lucas Oil Raceway for lunch an afternoon wringing the supercharged factory drag car’s neck on the 1320. It was easily some of the most fun I’ve ever had on the drag strip, and I would insanely impressed with the car and what it was capable of despite the blistering temps and sweltering humidity. The clocks were off, but the car’s onboard telemetry handled the timing for me, showing that the car was clicking off quarter mile times in the 10.2 range despite being in some 40 degree higher temps than the record-smashing 9.6 second times achieved in testing.

The car is quite literally amazing. No, it’s not a luxury car, and it’s not a supercar. It is a Dodge, and it did sell for less than $100,000 so keep that in perspective when passing judgement on a car by comparing it to the cars it’s often listed with when discussing its performance. As mentioned in this video from The Drive, the Demon is quicker through the quarter than the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Bugatti Chiron, which cost $800,000 and $2 million respectively, making the Demon quite the performance value.
