Grudge Race Throwdown: Herb Da Rula vs Memphis Gangsta at No Guts No Glory
At the end of the season for the past several years, anybody who’s anybody in the grudge racing world has skipped out on the PRI festivities in Indy and opted to head for warmer weather – and hotter action – at No Guts No Glory at historic Orlando Speed World Dragway. This year was no exception, and as always, NGNG delivered some insane grudge racing, complete with gambling and some trash talk.
If you’ve even so much as peeked behind the curtain into the grudge world, you’ve almost certainly heard of Herb Da Rula. Herb has campaigned several cars over the past few years, each of them as good looking as they are quick, and they’re all very, very quick. His latest ride is this gorgeous orange/copper Camaro that looks like it would as comfortable at a car show as it is on the track. However, the first priority is to go fast, it just happens to look really good doing so.
In the other lane, the wicked 1963 split window Corvette known as the Memphis Gangster, a car with a fearsome reputation earned over the years, with the car having outrun some of the biggest names in the grudge game. While it may not quite be show quality in the looks department, Memphis Gangster is not a car to be taken lightly on the track no matter what.
The cars leave together, locked side-by-side in a stellar race that, until the win light comes on, it’s almost impossible to tell who’s out front. However, as they blast through the finish line the light comes on in Herb’s lane, handing him the win and what we have to assume was a pretty good sized stack of cash that was riding on this throwdown. Good side-by-side races like this are what makes grudge races some of the most exciting events you’ll ever attend. If you haven’t been, I strongly suggest you make that a priority for 2018!
