Guthrie Winter Shakedown 2017 Closed Course – Big Rob Entertainment

From what I can gather with the very limited intel I have on this event, the Guthrie Winter Meltdown is very much similar to the huge Cash Days events we see held annually in Ft Worth, TX, only it’s smaller and intended for cars that can be driven, at least within reason, on the street. None of these cars were trailered to the spot where they raced, and also unlike Cash Days, the police did close off the road so these guys could throw down without fear of arrest and having their cars impounded. However, there are plenty of similarities in that these are still some pretty badass hotrods and it’s an elimination-style format.

There’s also a name that most will recognize from Street Outlaws. Daddy Dave not only showed up in his personal street truck, an insanely clean twin turbo S10, he also was the hired wheelman of one of the other cars in the showdown. However, the guys in the Winter Shakedown didn’t seem to be star struck in the least, sending Dave packing in the first round in both of his rides. Dave was late off the line in his truck and couldn’t make up the hole shot, then lost in a close race in the Mustang.

The multi-color G-Body of Demoss would prove to be the man to beat on this particular night, mowing down the competition with a combination of consistency and a great first move off the line, hooking up hard enough to yank the front wheels, something not too many truly street-drivable cars can claim.

The race in the finals looked to be one of the closer races after Donovan in the blue Fox Body took a big hole shot, only to watch helplessly as Demoss drove around on the big end to take the win.

After the finals of the shootout, there were a few grudge races and test hits to end the night, with Daddy Dave taking yet another L against the Promont. While Dave didn’t have the best outing, the race itself went off without a hitch – except for the Promont overheating and dumping water on the street – and a good time was had by all.
