Guy Loses His License After Towing His Wheelchair-Bound Friend With His Car

Well this just plain sucks. Normally, we’re supporters of the law and those who enforce it, but maybe they went just a little overboard with the sentences passed down in this case. We’re not saying these guys should get off scot free, as they definitely broke the law, but to take this guy’s license for two years seems a bit harsh.

Yes, we know this is dangerous, but so did the driver of this car and his buddy, who he towed through the streets from a bar to McDonalds in his wheelchair. However, they traveled less than a quarter mile en route to grab a late meal after a night at the bar. The authorities, who caught the antics on camera, didn’t seem to find it as funny as we did. After running across the footage, the police tracked down the driver and promptly took his license for two years, slapping him with a reckless driving conviction. He also has to perform 200 hours of community service and was fined over $200.

As if that weren’t enough, they also slapped the external passenger, who held onto the spoiler of the car on the short jaunt down the street, with a charge that sounds suspiciously made up on the spot, “holding onto a vehicle for the purpose of being drawn” and a fine of $270 for his troubles.

As the host mentions, there’s a real good chance most of us have done this at some point, whether it be on a skateboard or rollerblades – which I’ve personally done myself – or a wheelchair. However, as you can see, the punishment for that can be pretty severe, especially for the driver of the vehicle, so if you are thinking about pulling a buddy down the street, just keep in mind the penalties can be pretty severe for both of you, especially if something goes wrong and the buddy being towed gets away and ends up in the path of oncoming traffic!
