Hardhat Safety Test – Why You Should Always Wear One
If you’ve ever been on a job site, you might’ve noticed that area requires that you wear a hardhat in order to gain access. It might seem like a precaution that isn’t really all that necessary as the likelihood of an accident is probably not too high, however, it seems like a simple enough task to be able to carry out so that, should the unlikely come to life, your melon can stay intact. For those who doubt the legitimacy of the need for a hardhat on such a sight, a demonstration like this can go a long way toward showing just how dangerous it could be to work in a construction area without head protection.
In this particular demonstration, to represent your melon, we have, well, a melon. There’s no need for a heavyweight object here as just the standard bolt will do. It’s something that is entirely too common in construction areas worldwide. In this demonstration, the bolt gets dropped from a variety of different heights, showing you just how much damage it’s going to do to the melon and it was actually to our surprise that it doesn’t really need all that much distance to travel before the piece of hardware can start doing some big-time damage. When you really think about it, this is just a lightweight piece compared to some of the other things that could be dropped from high off of something like scaffolding when you consider all of the materials that are present on a work site.
If you follow along with the video below, you’ll get an idea of what might be happening to your cranium if you should sustain such an impact. We have the feeling that after watching something like this, there’s going to be far less of a likelihood that you’ll find your way to a hardhat area without head protection ever again.
