How To Escape From Zip Ties In Only a Few Seconds…

This isn’t exactly automotive related per se, but we definitely see a great reason to share this short clip with you, our fans. You see, while we certainly don’t know each of you individually, we do appreciate all of you and want to keep you around as long as we can. Hopefully none of you ever find yourself in need of this information, but as the old saying goes, it’s better to have this info and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Often, would-be kidnappers will use heavy duty zip ties to restrain their intended targets. While they’re obviously no match for actual handcuffs, you can’t waltz into Lowe’s and buy police-issue cuffs either, and they’re typically strong enough to subdue an adult, unless you just happen to know this little trick.

We’re not going to pretend that having this information will automatically make things better for you, it would be crazy to assume anything about an abduction situation and how to best handle it. We just want you to be able to at least free your hands should the opportunity present itself and it feels reasonably safe to do so.

Luckily, there’s not a lot to this technique. I’m going to tell you now, I have tried this myself with the same heavy-duty zip ties and this method does work. My wrists were a bit sore afterwards, but that went away after a couple of hours and was certainly better than hypothetically being left with my range of motion severely restricted by the ties.

The important thing to keep in mind while using this method to escape is to not hold back. Yep, there’s a real good chance you’ll bruise your wrists or maybe even cut them a bit. That’s only going to be made worse if you have to try it over and over, so the first time needs to be the only time. Throw everything you have into that first attempt and hopefully you’ll find yourself free of your binds and able to use your arms and hands again.
